WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE
Our Roots: The Hansville Ladies’ Aid Society

“Women active in the Hansville Community Church formed the Hansville Ladies' Aid Society in the 1930s. Hilda Eriksson, Sofia Mattson, Maria Udd, Johanna Broo, and Julia Pedersen first organized the group to visit the sick and “shut ins” or to provide help to a family in need. They often used the Grange Co-op for food assistance. Meetings began with a prayer and were held in individual homes. In 1947 the Hansville Cemetery property was deeded to the Ladies’ Aid, and members of the society have served as “keepers” of the cemetery since that time. A Cemetery Board of Trustees consisting of three trustees and the president and secretary of the Ladies’ Aid Society oversees the management of the cemetery. Each Memorial Day since 1999, services are held at the cemetery to honor the veterans interred there.

The society has always done their own fundraising and continues to do so to support their charitable work and the cemetery. In 1999 the Fire Auxiliary decided to join the Ladies’ Aid, increasing their membership to around 20 members. In 2015 they changed their named to “Hansville Helping Hands.”

WHO WE ARE
Community Support Services in Hansville

Established in the late 1940s as Hansville Ladies Aid and renamed in 2015, Hansville Helping Hands operates solely for the benefit of local residents. With around 28 active members, the organization of Hansville Helping Hands & Cemetery is dedicated to maintaining the historic Hansville Cemetery and offering vital support services to the surrounding community.

Beyond cemetery operations,
Hansville Helping Hands
provides a wide range of
community assistance
programs designed to
support the daily needs
of Hansville residents:

  • Medical Equipment Lending Program – HHH lends essential medical devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, ice machines, and toilet risers. The program serves dozens of individuals on an annual basis.

  • Transportation Assistance – Recognizing the limited local transportation options, HHH offers rides to the ShareNet Food Bank and medical appointments, filling a critical gap for residents.

  • Food Security & Holiday Support – HHH supplements the local food pantry on Hansville Road, funds freezer purchases for ShareNet, and distributes food vouchers during Thanksgiving. It also organizes back-to-school backpack donations and holiday gift drives for local families.
